Kim Kohler, CZT

Kim Kohler discovered Zentangle® as she was undergoing cancer treatment in 2012. She quickly found that Zentangle is a way to relax, practice mindfulness, and maintain a creative form of meditation, which in turn took focus away from the pain and frustration of treatment. Kim became a Certified Zentangle Teacher® in 2014 to grow her personal practice. But on the plane back home, she realized she had to share the benefits and her love of the art method to others, so she began to teach. Through Zentangle, Kim has learned to “let go” of perfection and judgment when it comes to artwork and life!

Meet Your Teachers

Kim VanZyll, CZT

My name is Kim VanZyll; I live in Carson City, Nevada, with my husband of 44 years. We have a 29 year-old son and a rescue German Shepherd, “Chewie”. I am a Certified Zentangle Teacher®, of Class 16. I discovered the art method Zentangle® about 10 years ago. I had an immediate connection; taking me back to my high school years of pen & ink and pencil drawings. In the beginning, I taught myself the method, staying true to the philosophies of the founders, Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts. I went on to become certified in October of 2014 in Providence, Rhode Island. I have taught over 200 Zentangle® classes; to students ranging from 7 to 90 years old! My passion is watching the "artist within" come out and shine. I like to push myself by applying the Zentangle® principles to other art methods. I teach Beginning and Advanced classes out of our home, as well as other locations. Along this journey, my own talents developed and improved to where I felt validated as an artist. I have since participated in several art shows, been selected as a featured artist at the St. Mary's Art Center Gallery and had a month long showing of my art and 17 of my students at a local Restaurant. I was nominated as a feature artist along with a handful of other artists to turn old vintage school desks from 1910, into unique pieces of art. These were then sold by silent auction as a fundraiser for The Fourth Ward School in Virginia City, Nevada. It was an honor to raise $500 for their foundation. I also had the privilege of teaching to 130 of my peers, in Portland Oregon at Tangle University. That was one of the highlights of my career as a Zentangle® artist. I met a fellow CZT from Ireland, who requested two of my creations, be on display in two different galleries in Ireland! The following year I traveled to Ireland, and was the “Mystery Guest Teacher” at the European CZT Retreat. I have worked for Carson Tahoe Hospital for over 18 years in the mental health and substance abuse field. I love to introduce Zentangle® to anyone needing a distraction from their depression, pain, anxiety and addiction. This art method has changed the lives of me, and my husband; and countless other individuals. I see spending the rest of my life developing and enjoying my craft. Feel free to email me with any questions, or to inquire about classes. Kim VanZyll, tanglewonders@gmail.com (775) 230-6326 www.tanglewonders.com also on facebook

Mo Lockey, CZT

Hello, l am Mo Lockey, originally from Derby, England now living in Northern Nevada. I chanced upon Zentanglelike many people accidentally when l was looking for a creative outlet after early retirement. Like a lot of you l was convinced that l couldn’t call myself an artist, Zentangle gave me a new and exuberant voice. I became a CZT37 in 2021 during the Pandemic as a personal challenge. All of my prior teaching experience had been in the Computing, Engineering and Medical fields, so to be given the opportunity to teach creatively has been wonderful. As a CZT l approach all of my creative practice in the spirit of curiosity, learning and FUN. I love to expand my horizons and often add other media to my art. I hope to share my passion for Zentanglewith all of you and learn something fun and exciting together.

Romi Marks, CZT

Romi Marks or aka The Tangled Yogi has  been practicing Zentangle for 9 years but has had a relationship with creativity her entire life. The Zentangle method is an easy, relaxing and fun way to create beautiful images by drawing structured patterns. It increases focus, creativity, and provides artistic satisfaction while creating a sense of well being. It is Romi’s belief that Zentangle has given her creative work focus and direction. She has been practicing gentle yoga for nearly 20 years and learned about Zentangle from her yoga teacher.  The fusion of yoga and Zentangle was a natural progression and life changing. While Romi’s methods are untraditional with the use of color, the journey and the destination are still the same: a deep sense of relaxation and gratitude for the creative process. Learning to use Zentangle as a meditative practice has brought balance and calm to her students and friends. She teaches many online class and developed an extensive youtube video library for her online students. She has also created a line of Zentangle inspired tiles that are available for purchase on her website at Tangledyogi.com. She received her certification CZT18 and has been teaching ever since. It is her desire to guide her students to a place of well-being and inspiration.
